The World Health Organization (WHO) has deployed emergency teams to Afghanistan’s eastern region following a powerful earthquake that caused deaths and injuries. WHO Afghanistan confirmed its staff are supporting hospitals and health facilities with treatment of the wounded while also assessing urgent health needs. Essential medicines, medical supplies, and mobile health teams are being sent to affected areas to strengthen the response and ensure timely care for survivors.

Afghanistan earthquake death toll
A powerful 6.0 magnitude quake struck eastern Afghanistan late Sunday, especially devastating Kunar and Nangarhar provinces. The death toll has risen to at least 812 with thousands injured, and entire villages, including those made of mud-brick, have been leveled. Rescue operations are being hampered by landslides, damaged infrastructure, and heavy rains. The Taliban administration is appealing for urgent international aid, while countries like the UAE, UK have already pledged emergency support to assist survivors.
