Gaza City’s Al-Ahli Arab Hospital has suspended several key medical services after its main power generator failed amid shortages of fuel, lubricating oil and spare parts, according to medical sources.
The breakdown forced the hospital to halt CT scans and X-ray services, including the only CT scanner operating in northern Gaza, while medical staff also reduced other services and postponed several surgeries. The generator had reportedly operated for about 1,200 hours without an oil change before failing. The outage has left the hospital struggling to serve around 1,000 patients a day while continuing to carry out dozens of surgeries.

Al-Ahli Arab Hospital, also known as the Baptist Hospital, is one of the main medical facilities in eastern Gaza City. It provides emergency and urgent maternity care, surgical treatment, physiotherapy, wound and burn care, outpatient services, laboratory testing and diagnostic imaging.
Hospital officials attributed shortages of essential generator supplies to restrictions on their entry and limits on deliveries to medical facilities. The generator failure adds to the wider pressure on Gaza’s health system, where medical facilities have faced shortages and extensive damage to health infrastructure.
The World Health Organization estimates that about 20,000 patients are awaiting medical evacuation, while around 43,000 people require long-term rehabilitation for life-changing injuries. More than 6,600 amputees also require prosthetic or orthotic devices and sustained rehabilitation services.
