A mother and daughter in Palm Coast are building their nursing careers through AdventHealthโs education and clinical training partnership with Daytona State College, highlighting how structured learning pathways are helping shape the next generation of nurses.
Kristen Sutton, who now serves as chief nursing officer for Flagler and St. Johns counties, reflects on starting her career at AdventHealth more than 20 years ago as a patient care technician.
Her daughter, Alexis Sutton, 25, is currently working as an emergency department technician at AdventHealth Palm Coast while studying nursing.

โIโve learned how much the small things matter,โ Alexis said. โHow you talk to someone, how you listen, how you help them feel a little more at ease.โ
Kristen said her own journey included roles as a unit secretary, telemetry technician, and registered nurse before moving into leadership, and she now sees a similar path unfolding for her daughter.
AdventHealthโs partnership with Daytona State College includes tuition support, scholarships, clinical training opportunities, and a nurse residency program to help students transition into patient care roles.
