Merck Foundation marked World Hypertension Day 2026 by expanding access to healthcare education through nearly 1,000 scholarships for young healthcare providers from 52 countries.
The scholarships, offered in partnership with First Ladies of Africa and Asia, Ministries of Health, Medical Societies, and Academia, focus on Diabetes, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Cardiovascular Preventive Care, and Obesity Weight Management.
Senator Dr. Rasha Kelej said, โTogether with our Ambassadors and partners, we are committed to expanding equitable care in hypertension, diabetes, endocrinology, and cardiovascular preventive care.โ
Merck Foundation has provided more than 2,600 scholarships across 44 underserved medical specialties to strengthen healthcare capacity in developing countries.
As part of its awareness initiatives, the foundation also launched childrenโs storybooks and animation films including โMarkโs Pressureโ and โSugar Free Judeโ to promote healthy lifestyles and raise awareness about hypertension and diabetes prevention.
Additionally, the foundation announced its 2026 Media, Film, Fashion, and Song Awards aimed at encouraging creative awareness campaigns on diabetes and hypertension prevention across Africa.
