Dubai– On October 1st, in honor of the International Day for Older Persons, Mediclinic Middle East launched its innovative ‘Healthy Ageing’ program, the first of its kind in the UAE’s private healthcare sector.

Contents
  • ‘Healthy Ageing’ screening package
  • Improving Brain Health and Active Aging

This innovative endeavor aims to enhance services for individuals aged 50 and above in the UAE. Dementia-related illnesses are projected to surge by a staggering 1700% by 2050 in the country, according to The Lancet. The program aligns perfectly with the World Health Organization’s agenda to promote healthy ageing.

‘Healthy Ageing’ screening package

Mediclinic is currently preparing its ‘Healthy Ageing’ program for international accreditation. The program aims to provide comprehensive support for the prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment of age-related health issues. The program is initially launching in Dubai, where Mediclinic City Hospital already specializes in offering geriatric services for older adults.

The initiative’s first phase introduces a ‘Healthy Ageing’ screening package, available to individuals aged 50 and above on a self-payment basis. The package primarily focuses on early detection of age-related conditions, especially cognitive impairments like dementia and Alzheimer’s.

A distinctive feature of this screening package is the utilization of CognICA, a cutting-edge digital health tool developed by Cognetivity. CognICA merges brain science advancements with AI and machine learning for a five-minute comprehensive brain health assessment.

Improving Brain Health and Active Aging

This assessment is instrumental in identifying individuals with cognitive impairments or those at risk of developing neurodegenerative conditions. Early intervention is paramount in addressing cognitive decline and enhancing overall health and well-being. Mediclinic aims to use artificial intelligence to enhance early intervention methods, slowing dementia progression and improving health outcomes.

Dr. Pietie Loubser, Chief Medical Officer at Mediclinic Middle East, emphasized the significance of active, healthy ageing and early disease detection. He stated, “Our evidence-based ‘Healthy Ageing’ screening package, specifically designed for those aged 50 and above, will play a pivotal role in preserving physical, mental, and cognitive health as our clients age.”

“Additionally, It aids early diagnosis, allowing consultants to suggest treatments and lifestyle changes to mitigate age-related diseases. By promoting active ageing, we empower our patients to take control of their health and well-being, including their brain health, leading to an improved quality of life, heightened mental acuity, and a reduced risk of age-related disorders such as dementia, Alzheimer’s, cardiovascular issues, or other chronic ailments,” he added.

The ‘Healthy Ageing’ screening package is available at Mediclinic City Hospital, Mediclinic Parkview Hospital, and Mediclinic Dubai Mall. For additional information or to schedule an appointment, please visit Mediclinic’s official website or call 800 2033.
