startAD, the Abu Dhabi-based startup accelerator powered by Tamkeen and anchored at NYU Abu Dhabi has launched the AI Adoption Barometer and two practical implementation playbooks to help healthcare and social impact organizations accelerate responsible AI adoption across the UAE. The initiative is supported by Google.org through the AI for Good programme.
Developed using insights from 52 UAE-based organizations, the AI Adoption Barometer provides a snapshot of how institutions are adopting artificial intelligence. In healthcare, 81% of surveyed organizations have identified AI use cases, while 58% are already piloting or deploying AI solutions. However, 42% reported having no dedicated AI budget, highlighting the gap between AI ambition and operational readiness.

To support implementation, startAD introduced the AI Use Case Discovery Playbook and the Evaluate and Pilot AI Solutions Playbook, offering step-by-step guidance for identifying AI opportunities, evaluating solutions, and launching responsible pilot projects. Both resources are available through the new startAD AI Resource Hub.
Anthony Nakache, Managing Director, Google MENA: โWhile AI may seem complex, we are convinced that healthcare organizations can embrace it. This project challenges the assumption that meaningful AI requires massive financial resources or specialized technical proficiency. Being part of Googleโs regional AI Opportunity Initiative, Google.orgโs support to startAD is designed to improve healthcare accessibility for disadvantaged communities across the UAE.โ
According to startAD, the AI for Good programme has engaged five organizations through 13 AI readiness workshops, increased overall AI readiness by 43%, and involved nearly 200 students and innovators across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and the wider MENA region in advancing responsible AI adoption.
