Amid the recent surge in violence in Gaza, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) is urgently seeking $104 million to provide critical humanitarian assistance over the next 90 days. This funding will address the immediate needs of up to 250,000 individuals seeking refuge in UNRWA shelters within Gaza and another 250,000 Palestine refugees within the community.
The humanitarian response encompasses essential services such as food, non-food items, healthcare, shelter, and protection. It will prioritize vulnerable groups, including women, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.
“What is unfolding is already an unprecedented humanitarian tragedy. Whatever the circumstances are, rules apply in times of conflict and this one is no exception. Aid to civilians who have nowhere to flee must be immediate: water, food, medicine,” said UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini.
UNRWA continues to grapple with a significant financial crisis, with current funding sustaining regular services only until the end of October. This appeal can only be realized with additional support for the Agency’s core Programme Budget, essential for sustaining services in Gaza and other regions.

Commissioner-General Lazzarini implored UNRWA’s donors and partners to increase their financial assistance, emphasizing the organization’s vital role in providing lifesaving aid to millions of Palestine refugees. UNRWA also joins the calls for an immediate ceasefire and the cessation of violence.
