The University of Chicago Medicine has announced an extension of its collaboration with AbbVie through 2027, reinforcing a long-standing partnership aimed at advancing cancer research and clinical trials. The agreement builds on a relationship established in 2016 and reflects more than ten years of joint efforts in translational and clinical research to improve patient outcomes.

While notable progress has been made in cancer care, the disease continues to be one of the leading causes of mortality globally, highlighting the ongoing need for innovation in treatment strategies and trial design. Through this extended collaboration, both institutions seek to strengthen research synergies and accelerate the translation of scientific discoveries into clinical practice, with the goal of delivering more effective therapies to patients with cancer.

โ€œThe AbbVie-UChicago Medicine collaboration has created valuable opportunities for deep and meaningful scientific discussion and the development of clinical trials for cancer treatment,โ€ said Kunle Odunsi, MD, PhD, Director of the University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center and AbbVie Foundation Distinguished Professor. โ€œThis partnership is an exceptional model of industry and academia working together with a patient-centered focus. Our ambition is that this clinical and translational collaboration continues to positively impact public health and advance cancer treatment.โ€

โ€œOur partnership with the University of Chicago is driven by our shared dedication to advancing cancer research and clinical innovation,โ€ said Andrew Souers, PhD, vice president, oncology discovery research at AbbVie. โ€œWhile we have made significant progress in cancer research, there is more to accomplish together. We look forward to deepening our long-standing collaboration to continue delivering meaningful, lasting impact for people living with cancer.โ€
