Professor Khalaf Gargary from the University of Dohuk in Iraqi Kurdistan, a consultant pediatrician and supervisor for the Iraqi and Arab boards of pediatrics, was interviewed at the seventh Emirates Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Conference.
Improving Pediatric Care
Professor Gargary emphasized that to improve pediatric care, medical professionals must be prevention-minded. He highlighted the importance of educating the community and parents on how to care for children, as well as training junior pediatricians.
In the field of hematology and oncology, he noted that the availability of genetic testing in the current โgenetic eraโ allows for earlier diagnosis and better treatment outcomes, which is a major step forward.
Building Future Pediatric Leaders
Professor Gargary is also the president of the Pediatrician Across Continents Education Academy (PEACE Academy), a multinational non-profit organization. One of its main objectives is to help junior pediatricians become future leaders in the field.
Advice for Young Pediatricians
When asked for advice for young doctors, Professor Gargary stressed the importance of medical professionalism. He outlined several key aspects:

- Mastering effective communication skills.
- Applying theoretical knowledge to patient care.
- Practicing empathy by putting oneself โin the patientโs or caregiverโs shoesโ to understand their expectations and needs.
