Royal Philips announced the acquisition of US-based SpectraWAVE to strengthen its AI-driven intravascular imaging and coronary physiology portfolio, enhancing diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery disease for millions of patients worldwide.
Royal Philips, a global health technology company, has announced an agreement to acquire SpectraWAVE, Inc., a US-based innovator in enhanced vascular imaging, angiography-based physiological assessment, and the application of artificial intelligence in medical imaging. The acquisition is aimed at strengthening Philipsโ portfolio of technologies used in the diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery disease, the most common form of heart disease worldwide, affecting more than 300 million people.

Founded in 2017 and headquartered in Bedford, Massachusetts, SpectraWAVE employs more than 70 people and has developed intravascular imaging and physiological assessment technologies designed to support clinicians in treating patients with coronary artery disease. These tools are particularly relevant for percutaneous coronary interventions, which are minimally invasive procedures increasingly used to manage complex cardiovascular conditions.
A growing body of clinical evidence indicates that the use of intravascular imaging and physiological assessment during such interventions leads to improved patient outcomes. Philips said the addition of SpectraWAVEโs technologies will complement its Azurion image-guided therapy platform and its broader range of diagnostic and therapeutic devices, supporting wider adoption of advanced technologies to address the needs of an expanding and increasingly complex patient population.
โWe are doubling down on image-guided therapy and expanding our portfolio in the coronary intervention segment with the addition of SpectraWAVEโs AI-powered innovations in high-definition intravascular imaging and angio-based physiological assessment, enabling us to deliver better care for more people,โ said Roy Jakobs, CEO of Royal Philips.

โPhilips shares our deep conviction that the convergence of intravascular imaging, coronary physiology and AI can fundamentally improve how every patient with coronary disease is treated. This partnership allows us to integrate and scale HyperVue and X1-FFR into the worldโs leading image-guided therapy ecosystem, expanding choice for clinicians and supporting more consistent, high-quality care for the millions of patients who depend on coronary intervention each year,โ said Eman Namati, PhD, CEO of SpectraWAVE.
