April 2026- Oman marked a major step toward strengthening national health security with the official opening of Izz Pharma’s new pharmaceutical factory in Nizwa on Wednesday. The inauguration was held under the patronage of H.E. Sultan bin Salim Al Habsi, Minister of Finance, and attended by H.E. Dr. Hilal bin Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health, along with senior officials and dignitaries.
The new facility represents a significant boost to Oman’s pharmaceutical manufacturing sector and supports the country’s vision of becoming a regional hub for vital industries. Built across 200,000 square meters, the factory is equipped with advanced global technologies and modern production lines, with an annual production capacity of more than 18 million units.
Izz Pharma aims to meet local demand for medicines and medical preparations that match international quality standards while reducing reliance on imports, particularly for essential products such as intravenous (IV) fluids. The project is expected to strengthen medical supply chains and improve preparedness during emergencies.
Speaking at the inauguration, Seif Al Ehsani, CEO of Izz Pharma, said the idea for the factory emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic, which highlighted that health security is a national necessity. He noted that the factory reflects Oman’s commitment to building an integrated pharmaceutical system that supports self-sufficiency and protects public health.

Balqees Al-Makhmari, Director of Investment Enablement at the Ministry of Health, stated that Oman currently has 20 operational pharmaceutical and medical factories producing over 2,000 local products, with 18 more under construction. She added that Omani medical industries are now exporting to more than 32 countries, reinforcing Oman’s growing role as a manufacturing and export hub.
Beyond production, Izz Pharma also focuses on creating skilled job opportunities for Omani professionals and training national talent in pharmaceutical manufacturing, technical operations, and management. The project supports Omanization goals and reflects the country’s broader strategy of economic diversification and pharmaceutical sovereignty.
