Bahrain’s Ministry of Health has reaffirmed its support for joint GCC efforts to strengthen health sector integration and improve healthcare services across the region.
The commitment was highlighted during the 103rd meeting of the Gulf Health Council Executive Board in Riyadh, where Bahrain’s Health Ministry Under-Secretary Dr Lulwa Rashid Showaiter chaired discussions on regional health cooperation.
A key focus was the Gulf Unified Procurement Programme, which aims to improve spending efficiency, strengthen pharmaceutical security and ensure sustainable supplies of medicines and medical products across GCC countries.

The meeting also reviewed the Gulf Health Council’s performance during the first half of 2026 and discussed the 2027 budgets of the council and the Gulf Centre for Disease Prevention and Control.
Other initiatives included establishing a strategic stockpile committee, approving unified procurement tenders, strengthening cooperation on centralised pharmaceutical registration and adopting a Gulf guide for standardising pharmaceutical export prices.

The meeting also saw the launch of Taawun 2.0, the Knowledge Platform and specialised studies by the Gulf Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, supporting greater collaboration and knowledge sharing across GCC health systems.
