King Abdullah Specialized Childrenโ€™s Hospital in Riyadh has successfully separated Fijian conjoined twins following a complex operation lasting nearly 13 hours.

According to Al-Rabeeah, “The twins were joined at the abdomen and pelvis and shared a liver, intestines, colon, anus, urinary system, reproductive system and pelvic bone. The procedure was the first such separation involving patients from Fiji and the 74th operation conducted under the Saudi Conjoined Twins Program.”

The operation marks the 74th procedure conducted under the Saudi Conjoined Twins Program, which has been operating for 35 years. The programme has assessed 159 cases from 28 countries across five continents.

The twinsโ€™ family expressed gratitude to Saudi Arabiaโ€™s leadership and the medical team for their care and support. The successful procedure highlights the role of multidisciplinary expertise in managing complex paediatric surgical cases.
