Sheikh Dr Salman Khalifa Al-Sabah, Undersecretary of Kuwait’s Ministry of Health, has ranked first among Kuwait-affiliated researchers in surgery in the 2026 Stanford–Elsevier list of the world’s top 2% of scientists.

He ranked 765th among 146,713 researchers worldwide in the field of surgery, placing him within approximately the top 0.52% of researchers in the category.

The Stanford–Elsevier ranking is compiled by a research team led by Professor John Ioannidis of Stanford University and published through Elsevier’s data repository using Scopus data. It evaluates researchers’ scientific impact through several indicators, including citations, h-index, research output and authorship position.

The database includes two separate rankings: one assessing research impact over a scientist’s entire career and another measuring impact over a single year. The 2026 update was published on 7 October, with the single-year ranking based on data and citations recorded in 2025.

The recognition highlights the international visibility of Kuwait-affiliated medical research and the contributions of researchers working in the field of surgery to the global scientific community.
