Saudi Arabiaโs Ministry of Interior Medical Services has performed the countryโs first minimally invasive robot-assisted lumbar spine surgery at the Prince Naif Center for Medical Excellence and Innovation in Riyadh.
The procedure was carried out on a patient with severe degeneration of the lumbar vertebrae using the ExcelsiusGPS robotic surgical system. According to the Saudi Press Agency, the patient regained mobility and was able to walk within an hour of the operation.
The ExcelsiusGPS system combines surgical navigation technology with a robotic arm, helping surgeons plan procedures and guide surgical instruments with precision. The minimally invasive approach is designed to limit damage to surrounding tissues during surgery.
