GSK is advancing its mRNA-based seasonal influenza vaccine candidate into a late-stage clinical trial after encouraging results from a mid-stage study.

According to the company, the candidate generated stronger immune responses than currently approved standard-dose and high-dose influenza vaccines in the Phase 2 study. The findings support further evaluation of the vaccine as researchers continue to explore mRNA technology for seasonal flu prevention.

The move comes as pharmaceutical companies increasingly develop mRNA-based vaccines designed to improve immune responses and potentially offer broader protection against respiratory infections.

The latest development also highlights growing competition in the influenza vaccine market, where manufacturers are exploring new technologies alongside established vaccine platforms. mRNA technology allows vaccine developers to use genetic instructions to prompt the body to produce an immune response against targeted viral components.

The candidate will now undergo late-stage testing to assess its effectiveness and safety in a larger population. Results from the trial will help determine whether the vaccine can demonstrate sufficient benefits to support future regulatory applications.

The development adds to the expanding pipeline of mRNA-based influenza vaccines and reflects continued efforts to improve seasonal flu prevention, particularly for populations at higher risk of complications.
