Boehringer Ingelheim has initiated three Phase III clinical trials aimed at advancing precision oncology and improving outcomes for patients with difficult-to-treat cancers. The studies include DAREONยฎ-Lung-1 and DAREONยฎ-NEC-1, evaluating the investigational therapy obrixtamig in small cell lung cancer (SCLC) and extrapulmonary neuroendocrine carcinoma (epNEC), as well as Beamion LUNG-3 assessing zongertinib in HER2-mutant non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
The DAREONยฎ trials will investigate obrixtamig, a DLL3-targeted T-cell engager, in biomarker-informed patient populations. The studies aim to determine whether the therapy can improve outcomes for patients with aggressive neuroendocrine cancers, where treatment options remain limited and survival rates are often poor.

Lykke Hinsch Gylvin said, โPeople living with aggressive cancers often face a shortage of treatment choices. With the launch of these trials, we are advancing our precision oncology ambitions to move targeted therapies into earlier treatment lines and bring biomarker-informed science into late-stage development. By focusing on the biology of each tumor, we aim to give patients facing cancer more precise treatment options with the goal of improving outcomes where the need is greatest.โ
Meanwhile, the Beamion LUNG-3 trial will evaluate zongertinib as an adjuvant treatment for patients with resectable HER2-mutant NSCLC following surgery. The study is designed to assess whether the targeted therapy can improve disease-free survival and reduce the risk of cancer recurrence.
