UK โ€“ Somerset Council has issued a public health advisory ahead of the Glastonbury Festival 2025, taking place from June 25 to 29 in Pilton, Somerset, urging attendees to take precautions against conjunctivitis (pink eye) following a rise in local cases.

Glastonbury, one of the UKโ€™s largest music festivals, attracts over 200,000 visitors annually. The council noted a rise in local cases of conjunctivitis and is encouraging festivalgoers to remain vigilant, particularly given the eventโ€™s large crowds and shared facilities. Conjunctivitis is a common and typically mild infection that causes redness, irritation, and discharge in one or both eyes. It is often caused by viruses, bacteria, or allergens and can spread easily through contact.

To reduce the risk of transmission, Somerset Council recommends the following:

โ€ข Wash hands frequently with soap and water.
โ€ข Avoid touching your eyes, especially with unclean hands.
โ€ข Donโ€™t share towels, eye makeup, or personal care items.
โ€ข Use hand sanitiser regularly.
โ€ข Stay hydrated and drink plenty of water throughout the event.
โ€ข Pack a first aid kit, including medications and plasters.
โ€ข Use sun protection like sunscreen, hats, and light clothing.
โ€ข Know where to get help by familiarising yourself with on-site medical services.
โ€ข Have a plan for how to get home safely if feeling unwell.

In addition to conjunctivitis awareness, the councilโ€™s broader Glastonbury health advisory encourages all attendees to prepare for heat, stay hydrated, and protect themselves from sunburn. Festivalgoers are also advised to bring essential medications, hand sanitiser, and plasters, and to seek medical support onsite if feeling unwell. The council also reminds festival-goers to be vigilant about heat-related illnesses.

The advisory is part of a wider effort by local health authorities to ensure a safe and enjoyable festival experience for the expected thousands of visitors.
