The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP-UAE) has unveiled its annual national Awareness Campaign for the Early Detection of Breast Cancer under the banner “Powered by You.” The campaign, running throughout “Pink October,” recognized as World Breast Cancer Awareness Month by the World Health Organization, aims to raise public awareness about the critical importance of early detection and prevention of breast cancer while offering comprehensive services from detection to treatment.

Joining forces with the Ministry, Friends of Cancer Patients, represented by the Pink Caravan, is a key partner in this campaign, along with strategic collaborators MSD Middle East and the Emirates Development Bank, and corporate partners Omnia, Padel Nuestro, and Don Padel.

The campaign’s objectives include educating women on self-examination techniques, providing preventive advice and check-ups, and offering free mammograms to women aged 40 and above. Positive cases are referred to specialized hospitals for treatment. Furthermore, the campaign seeks to foster collaboration among governmental and non-governmental health agencies in support of the Ministry’s breast cancer battle.

As part of the campaign, the Pink Caravan mobile clinic is conducting screenings at various locations and workplaces, while the Ministry disseminates preventive tips, messages, and informative videos on the significance of early detection through its social media platforms.

Eight Screening Centres

Senior officials from corporate sponsors actively support the campaign, launched at the Ministry of Health and Prevention’s headquarters. Screening locations include the Emirates Development Bank (EDB) in Abu Dhabi, the EDB’s Dubai branch, City Centre Mirdif in Dubai, Al Majaz Park in Sharjah, the Etihad Airways office in Abu Dhabi, and more.

Dr. Buthaina Bin Belaila, Head of the Non-Communicable Disease and Mental Health Department at the Ministry, highlighted the importance of early detection, which significantly raises the recovery rate, surpassing 95%. The campaign also emphasizes the role of risk factors, healthy lifestyle choices, diet, physical activity, and tobacco avoidance in cancer prevention.

The “Powered by You” campaign marks the UAE’s commitment to battling breast cancer and promoting early detection through a multifaceted approach. It encourages citizens and institutions to participate actively in this vital initiative.
