Cancer affects families across the world, bringing emotional and physical challenges to patients and loved ones alike. Yet stories of resilience continue to inspire communities everywhere. On July 1, 2026, a group of 13 cyclists will transform endurance into hope through Cycle Against Cancer, a purpose-driven initiative supporting cancer care through Al Jalila Foundation.
What is Cycle Against Cancer?
Cycle Against Cancer is an endurance initiative bringing together 13 riders to raise awareness and funds for cancer care. Beginning in Barcelona, the team will cycle 3,333 kilometres to Paris over 25 days, crossing Spain and France while tackling more than 54,000 metres of elevation.
The challenge symbolizes resilience, determination, and the belief that hope should remain visible and shared.

A Story That Belongs to Many
The initiative was founded by Guido De Wilde, a 68-year-old stage 4 colon cancer survivor. His journey is deeply personal, driven by a desire to give hope to those facing cancer.
โI started Cycle Against Cancer to give people hope, especially those who are told there is none,โ he says.
The team includes cancer survivors, business leaders, and members of the UAE cycling community. Some ride in celebration of recovery, others in memory of loved ones, while many ride in solidarity with those still undergoing treatment.
When Movement Becomes a Language of Hope
Cycle Against Cancer redefines endurance sports as a collective act rather than an individual challenge. Each climb and kilometre reflects the emotional and physical realities experienced by cancer patients and families every day.
With over 54,000 metres of elevation, the route mirrors the highs and lows of the cancer journey itself, emphasizing resilience and perseverance.
Shifting the Narrative Around Cancer
The initiative aims to change how cancer is perceived. While fear and loss are part of the reality, they are not the entire story. There is also strength, determination, recovery, and hope.
By highlighting resilience and community support, Cycle Against Cancer creates space for conversations centered on humanity, courage, and collective action.
From Awareness to Impact
Beyond the cycling challenge, the initiative seeks to raise funds supporting cancer care programs through Al Jalila Foundation, contributing to research, treatment, and patient support services.
โAt Al Jalila Foundation, we support initiatives that translate awareness into tangible impact,โ says Dr Amer Al Zarooni, CEO of the Foundation.
The campaign encourages wider participation through advocacy, storytelling, and community engagement.
The Power of Collective Movement
Cycling teaches the value of moving forward together. The ridersโ shared journey reflects the importance of support systems in facing illness. Training, endurance, and teamwork create bonds that mirror the strength communities provide during difficult times.
Each rider carries a personal story, but none ride alone.
A Journey Beyond Paris
Although the ride concludes in Paris after 25 days, its impact extends far beyond the finish line. The initiative hopes to inspire conversations, build awareness, and strengthen support for those affected by cancer.
At its core, Cycle Against Cancer reminds us that even during immense challenges, hope can still be created, shared, and sustained and that no one should face the journey alone.
