March 2026- The United Arab Emirates will mark the International Day of Happiness on March 20, underscoring its continued commitment to enhancing wellbeing, social stability and quality of life for both citizens and residents.
Happiness has been embedded into the countryโs governance framework through policies that prioritise public health, high-quality services and socio-economic stability. These efforts have supported strong social cohesion, alongside initiatives that address mental wellbeing, encourage positivity and strengthen community ties.
The UAE was among the first nations to adopt happiness as a key policy metric. In 2016, it introduced the role of Minister of State for Happiness, which was later expanded to include wellbeing. In 2020, the Quality of Life and Happiness portfolio was transferred to the Ministry of Community Development, reflecting a broader institutional approach.
