Overview

Dr. Waqar Ahmed is a distinguished pharmacy leader and skilled clinical pharmacist with over 15 years of progressive experience in the UAE healthcare sector, having served in leading JCI- and ASHP-accredited institutions. He currently serves as Director of Pharmacy at Fakeeh University Hospital, Dubai, where he leads multidimensional pharmacy operations including Clinical, Ambulatory, Inpatient, Sterile Compounding, Chemotherapy, and Tele pharmacy services, supported by fully automated solution technologies while also driving the expansion of pharmacy services across the Fakeeh Health network.

Dr. Ahmed holds a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from Pakistan, a Master’s in Clinical Pharmacy from the UK, and an MBA in Healthcare Management from Spain. He is also certified in Healthcare Management (CHMP – CMI, UK) and Medication Therapy Management (MTM – USA) and is currently a PhD scholar in Clinical Pharmacy.

He has played a pivotal role in advancing pharmacy services aligned with international best practices, contributing to successful Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditations and leading the implementation of the ASHP International Pharmacy Practice (IPS) Accreditation. As part of the Fakeeh Health executive leadership team, he is actively involved in strategic planning for pharmacy services regionally.

His leadership is rooted in a patient-centered philosophy with a strong focus on medication safety, quality improvement, and interprofessional collaboration. He is recognized for aligning pharmacy strategies with institutional goals, optimizing resource utilization, and implementing advanced medication-use technologies. Dr. Ahmed actively contributes to hospital-wide quality and safety efforts and serves on several key committees, including the Hospital Executive, Medical Executive (MEC), QIPS, IRB, Academic & Training Affairs, Pharmacy & Therapeutic (P&TC), Medication Safety (MSC), Antimicrobial Stewardship (AStC), CPR, and the Procurement & Inventory Committee.

In addition to his clinical and administrative roles, Dr. Ahmed is deeply involved in academia. He serves as an adjunct faculty member, preceptor, and advisory board member at multiple regional universities, contributing to the education and mentorship of undergraduate and postgraduate pharmacy trainees. He has co-authored several research publications in the fields of clinical pharmacy and healthcare practice.
