Overview
Dr Siddiq Anwar is a physician-researcher working at the intersection of clinical nephrology, artificial intelligence, and health-systems design. He holds a joint appointment as Clinical Professor of Medicine and Consultant Nephrologist at King’s College Hospital, Dubai, and has spent over two decades in kidney disease, transplantation, and complex renal care, trained through the South Thames Renal Rotation (UK) and fellowships at Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis. In 2024 he founded RenAIssance AI Research Lab, a healthcare-AI platform developed with Khalifa University and MBZUAI, where he supervises doctoral and postdoctoral researchers building decision-support tools across renal care, sepsis, transplantation, circulatory health, and AI-driven medical education.
As a Research Fellow at ADIA Lab and Co-Founder of Zyephr, an AI-based platform for chronic disease management, he pairs academic research with venture-building, moving models from
peer-reviewed publication into deployed clinical systems used across one of the UAE’s largest healthcare networks.
His work is grounded in a central question: why AI models that perform well in one setting so often fail in another, and how clinical AI can be designed from the outset for the Global South,
where disease burden is high but specialist capacity and data infrastructure are constrained. HelloKidneyAI, embodies this mission directly: an AI-powered point-of-care platform combining smartphone-based urine and creatinine testing with KDIGO-aligned decision support to detect chronic kidney disease early and activate care — validated across India, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Europe, and designed to scale from a single clinician’s bedside to national screening programmes.
As Educational Ambassador for the International Society of Nephrology’s Kenya and East Africa POCUS programmes, he has extended this work into hands-on capacity building beyond the
UAE. He has secured multi-million-dirham research funding, and been recognised as Best Physician UAE (2025) and Best Nephrologist UAE (2023) by Health Magazine UAE.
