March 2026- Merck has launched an online educational Symptom Checker aimed at promoting early detection of colorectal cancer by helping individuals recognise potential warning signs and encouraging timely medical consultation.
Colorectal cancer remains among the most common cancers across the Gulf region. Health experts note that the disease is highly treatable when detected early; however, many cases are still diagnosed at advanced stages, underscoring the need for improved awareness, regular screening, and earlier medical intervention.
The newly introduced Symptom Checker is designed as a simple, user-friendly questionnaire that asks individuals about potential symptoms associated with colorectal cancer. These include changes in bowel habits, blood in the stool, unexplained weight loss, persistent abdominal discomfort, fatigue, and family history of the disease.
Merck emphasised that the digital tool is intended purely as an educational resource and does not provide a medical diagnosis. If the responses suggest a possible risk, users are encouraged to seek medical advice and discuss appropriate screening methods with healthcare professionals, including stool-based tests or colonoscopy.

Healthcare specialists also stress that regular screening remains one of the most effective strategies for early detection. Adults aged 50 and above face a higher risk of developing colorectal cancer, and routine screening can identify precancerous changes before the disease progresses.
Ahmed Fadl, General Manager – Gulf, Merck said: “Colorectal cancer outcomes can improve significantly when the disease is identified early. Raising awareness of common symptoms and encouraging people to seek medical advice without delay is critical. This educational tool is designed to support that first step, helping individuals recognise potential warning signs and initiate informed conversations with their healthcare professionals.”
