The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) has designated three healthcare facilities as Oncology Centres of Excellence (CoEs) for Breast Cancer, strengthening access to specialised diagnosis and treatment across the emirate.
The designated centres are Burjeel Cancer Institute at Burjeel Medical City, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, and SEHA Tawam Hospital. The recognition reflects their specialised clinical capabilities, multidisciplinary teams, advanced technologies, research activities and patient-centred approaches to breast cancer care.
The designation comes as breast cancer remains one of the most common cancers among women in the UAE. Abu Dhabi has recorded an 85% increase in early breast cancer screening rates over the past year, highlighting efforts to improve prevention and early detection.

The three centres provide care across the breast cancer pathway, including diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and survivorship. Their capabilities include advanced imaging, minimally invasive and oncoplastic surgery, precision radiation therapy, clinical trials and specialised breast cancer services.

Burjeel Cancer Institute’s services include its One-Step Breast Clinic, which brings consultation, imaging, biopsy, pathology review and treatment planning together within 24 hours. The institute also provides advanced radiation oncology, contrast-enhanced mammography and specialised surgical procedures.
Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi manages complex breast cancer cases through a multidisciplinary model and offers advanced diagnostic imaging, robotic and endoscopic surgery, breast reconstruction, clinical trials and adaptive radiation therapy.
SEHA Tawam Hospital, part of PureHealth, serves as a tertiary referral centre for complex breast cancer cases and was the first facility in the UAE to receive international accreditation as a breast cancer centre through the National Accreditation Programme for Breast Centres (NAPBC). Its services include advanced imaging, AI-enabled mammography, precision radiation therapies and access to clinical research.
According to DoH, Centres of Excellence must meet defined standards covering clinical outcomes, patient experience, safety and quality, workforce competency, medical education, research and residency programmes, alongside relevant accreditations.
The designation is intended to strengthen specialised cancer care while supporting Abu Dhabi’s broader efforts to improve early detection, treatment outcomes and access to advanced healthcare services.
