Kenya has confirmed four additional cases of Ebola caused by the Bundibugyo virus, bringing the countryโ€™s total to seven, according to the Ministry of Health.

Three of the newly confirmed cases involve healthcare workers who treated the countryโ€™s first patient, while the fourth is a relative of the same patient who had been in quarantine since 6 October.

Kenyaโ€™s first confirmed patient died on 5 October after falling ill in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and travelling to Nairobi on 3 October. The countryโ€™s cases have been linked to the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the DRC, which has reported more than 9,000 cases and over 4,300 deaths.

The Kenyan Ministry of Health said 128 of the first patientโ€™s 130 contacts had been quarantined. Authorities have strengthened health screening, contact tracing and public reporting measures, while stating that there is no evidence of community transmission.

The outbreak involves the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola, for which no approved vaccine or specific treatment is currently available. Research into potential vaccines is ongoing, with some candidates in early-stage human testing.

The latest cases highlight the importance of infection prevention measures, monitoring exposed individuals and protecting healthcare workers during outbreaks.
