Al Ghurair has launched Trellis Health, marking its entry into the UAE healthcare sector with plans to expand its hospital and clinic network across Dubai. The group aims to open a second hospital by 2029 and establish four clinics by the end of 2027.
The launch took place on 8 October 2026 at Trellis Hospital on Umm Suqeim Street in Dubai. In exclusive conversations with MedEdge MEA, John Iossifidis, Group CEO of Al Ghurair, and Nasser Al Ghurair, Family Sponsor of Trellis Health, outlined the investment strategy and long-term vision behind the initiative.
Iossifidis said the healthcare investment emerged from a strategic planning exercise in 2024, when the group assessed the needs of a growing Dubai over the following decade. Healthcare was identified as an opportunity aligned with Al Ghurairโs wider involvement in sectors supporting everyday life and urban development.
A Long-Term Investment in Healthcare
Al Ghurair is positioning Trellis Health as a permanent investment rather than a short-term financial venture. Iossifidis emphasised the groupโs long-term commitment to healthcare, highlighting its intention to balance commercial sustainability with a contribution to community wellbeing.
Nasser Al Ghurair said the move into healthcare provides an opportunity to support families and residents through an essential service. He explained that acquiring an existing hospital offered a faster route into the market than developing a new facility from the ground up.

Focus on Connected and Preventive Care
Trellis Health aims to build an integrated care model that connects medical specialties, digital technology and preventive health services. The approach is intended to improve coordination between healthcare professionals and support a more holistic understanding of each patientโs needs.
Iossifidis identified four core elements of the model: collaboration across medical specialties, a whole-person approach to treatment, technology-enabled patient journeys, and a stronger focus on long-term health and prevention.

Nasser Al Ghurair also highlighted digital connectivity as a key part of the strategy, including improved links between doctors, patients, treatment services and preventive care.
The group believes this approach could help address gaps in care coordination while responding to demand for accessible, high-quality healthcare services.

Expansion Plans Across Dubai
Trellis Healthโs expansion will follow a phased approach. The group is actively seeking a site for its second hospital, which it aims to bring into operation by 2029, subject to project development.
Its clinic rollout is expected to begin sooner, with two clinics planned by the end of 2026 in Jumeirah Village Circle (JVC) and Expo City Dubai. Two additional clinics are planned during 2027.
The expansion is designed to connect hospital-based services with community healthcare facilities, broadening access to care across Dubai.
Responding to Dubaiโs Healthcare Needs
Although the UAE healthcare market has attracted significant private-sector investment, Iossifidis said opportunities remain for providers that can deliver quality, value and coordinated services. He also pointed to potential demand in southern Dubai, where he believes additional healthcare services could complement existing infrastructure in the emirateโs northern areas.
Trellis Health enters the market with the backing of an established UAE family business and a strategy centred on long-term investment, connected care and prevention.
Its progress will depend on how effectively it delivers its planned expansion and translates its care model into accessible services and meaningful patient outcomes.
