Dubai Central Laboratory (DCL), part of Dubai Municipality, has introduced an automated testing technology to improve the speed and efficiency of quality checks for oils and fats.

The new system reduces testing time from around two hours to just two minutes, while increasing the laboratory’s daily testing capacity from six samples to 60. The automated process also supports consistent and reliable analysis with less manual intervention.

The technology is designed to help detect early signs of oxidation and quality deterioration in oils and fats during manufacturing and storage. Faster testing results can support more proactive food control measures and help ensure products meet required safety and quality standards.

Hind Mahmoud Ahmed, Director of the Dubai Central Laboratory Department at Dubai Municipality, said “the technology would enhance the speed and efficiency of laboratory testing while maintaining the accuracy needed to support food safety and consumer protection. By increasing testing capacity and enabling faster analysis, we can strengthen proactive regulatory processes and respond more efficiently to developments within the food manufacturing sector.”

The initiative also supports sustainable laboratory practices by eliminating chemical consumables traditionally used in conventional testing methods. This can reduce resource use and the environmental impact of laboratory operations while maintaining testing accuracy.

The move forms part of Dubai Central Laboratory’s ongoing efforts to adopt advanced technologies and develop more efficient, accurate and sustainable laboratory services.
