Abu Dhabi is advancing an integrated healthcare model focused on prevention, early detection and personalised care across every stage of family life as part of the UAE’s Year of the Family 2026.

The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi has structured its approach around four key pillars: preventive healthcare, quality care, innovation, and emergency preparedness. The model supports families from premarital screening and pregnancy through newborn care and long-term health management.

Genetic testing has been added to premarital screening for Emirati couples, covering more than 570 genes linked to over 840 medical conditions. Newborn genetic screening can identify more than 815 treatable genetic conditions, enabling earlier intervention.

Abu Dhabi has also expanded postnatal services through home visits, teleconsultations and outpatient care. Its primary healthcare network includes 237 facilities and 818 family physicians providing vaccinations, screenings, health education and chronic disease management.

Technology is another key component, with platforms such as Malaffi and Sehhatna supporting access to health records, appointments, teleconsultations and AI-enabled risk assessments. The emirate is also expanding specialised care and emergency preparedness to build a more resilient healthcare system for families.
