Abu Dhabi, UAE: Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi has become the first hospital in Abu Dhabi to implant an advanced wireless heart monitoring system designed to detect early signs of worsening heart failure before symptoms appear.

The minimally invasive device is implanted in the pulmonary artery, where it continuously measures blood pressure and securely transmits clinical data to healthcare teams. By monitoring changes remotely, physicians can identify early warning signs of heart failure, enabling faster clinical intervention, medication adjustments, and more personalised care.

The technology is intended for patients with moderate to severe chronic heart failure who have experienced at least one heart failure-related hospitalisation within the previous year despite receiving guideline-directed medical therapy. The first recipients were two Emirati patients aged 62 and 79, both with a history of recurrent hospital admissions due to heart failure.

The implantation procedure is performed in the hospital’s American College of Cardiology-accredited cardiac catheterisation laboratory under local anaesthesia and mild sedation. Most patients can return home the same day or within 24 hours and resume normal activities within one to two days.

Dr Georges-Pascal Haber, Chief Executive Officer at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, said: โ€œIntroducing this technology in Abu Dhabi marks an important step forward in how we care for patients living with chronic heart failure. Instead of waiting for symptoms to worsen and require hospitalization, we can now monitor patients proactively and intervene earlier. This reflects our broader commitment to delivering the most advanced solutions of preventive, patient-centered healthcare.โ€

Dr Nadya Almatrooshi, Staff Physician, Cardiovascular Medicine, Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, said: โ€œFor many patients, continuous cardiac remote monitoring technology provides reassurance and greater confidence in managing their condition day-to-day. Patients often report improved symptom control, better exercise tolerance, and greater peace of mind knowing their care team is monitoring them closely.โ€

The introduction of the implant further strengthens Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s remote patient monitoring capabilities and reinforces its leadership in advanced cardiovascular care across the UAE.
