The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has called on African Union Member States to strengthen exit screening and public health measures at airports, seaports, and major border crossings in response to the ongoing Bundibugyo Ebola virus outbreak.
The agency is encouraging countries to implement non-invasive traveler screening, reinforce referral systems for suspected cases, improve risk communication, and strengthen collaboration among health, aviation, immigration, and border authorities to help contain the outbreak.

โProtecting public health and preserving safe movement must go together,โ said Dr Jean Kaseya, Director General of Africa CDC. โExit screening gives countries a practical, visible and science-based tool to reduce risk, reassure communities and partners, and avoid unnecessary disruption to travel, trade and response operations. Africa is implementing the measures needed to contain the outbreak and make broad travel restrictions unnecessary.โ
Africa CDC, alongside the World Health Organization (WHO) and partners, continues to provide technical support to affected countries as preparations intensify ahead of a high-level meeting of African leaders on June 16 to strengthen outbreak containment and regional preparedness.
