Gulf Medical University (GMU), part of Thumbay Group, has launched the region’s largest integrated network of clinical skills and simulation centres at its Ajman campus, strengthening hands-on healthcare education across the UAE and the wider GCC region.
The new network combines multiple specialised training facilities under one ecosystem, allowing students in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, physiotherapy, and allied health sciences to practice clinical procedures in a safe, simulation-based environment before working with real patients.
The facilities include:
- Thumbay Institute of Clinical Simulation
- Thumbay Institute of Surgical Skills
- Thumbay Dental Simulation
- Thumbay Pharmacy Practice Lab
- Thumbay Physiotherapy Skills Training Lab
- Thumbay Veterinary Clinical Skills Lab (coming soon)
- Thumbay Simulation Centre Dubai (coming soon)
The centres support training ranging from basic clinical procedures and surgical skills to emergency response simulations and OSCE assessments.
The inauguration was attended by Dr. Ashwin Fernandes, Chair of QS India and Vice President of Strategic and International Engagement at QS Quacquarelli Symonds, who described the initiative as a major step forward for simulation-based healthcare education in the region.
Prof. Manda Venkatramana, Chancellor of GMU, said “The initiative is designed to improve patient safety by ensuring students gain practical experience in controlled learning environments before treating patients.”

In addition to supporting GMU students, the university plans to position the network as a collaborative reference model for healthcare and academic institutions across the GCC interested in expanding simulation-based training and clinical education.
