The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has launched a simplified process for travelers who need to carry controlled medications containing narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances when entering or leaving Saudi Arabia. This initiative aims to make travel smoother for patients while maintaining strict safety protocols.

Easy online application process

Travelers can now apply for medication clearance permits through the SFDAโ€™s user-friendly Controlled Drugs System (CDS) platform atย https://cds.sfda.gov.sa. The streamlined digital process eliminates the need for in-person visits and paperwork hassles.

Hereโ€™s how it works:

  • Create an accountย on the CDS platform
  • Submit an applicationย with patient details and travel information
  • Upload required documentsย including:
  • Valid prescription
  • Medical report
  • Proof of identity
  • Add medication detailsย such as trade names, active ingredients, concentrations, and quantities
  • Track your applicationย status in real-time

Real-Time application tracking

The system provides transparent tracking with clear status updates:

  • Submitted: Application received and under review
  • Completed: Permit approved and ready
  • Rejected: Application denied with explanation
  • Incomplete: Additional documentation required

Who can apply?

The system accommodates various travel scenarios:

  • Patients traveling with their own medications
  • Caregivers or family members traveling with medications for another patient
