The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) revealed a dire situation in the Gaza Strip, stating that 50,000 pregnant women in the region are unable to access essential healthcare services. According to the UN agency, pregnant women face severe challenges in obtaining basic maternal healthcare, with 5,500 expected to give birth this month alone.

“Imagine going through that process in those final stages and your last trimester before giving birth, with possible complications, without clothing, without hygiene, support and not sure about what the next day, next hour, next minute will bring for themselves and for their unborn child,” United Nations Population Fund representative for Palestine, Dominic Allen, told CNN.

Those describing reports from the hospitals have characterized them as “harrowing,” with midwives facing difficulties in reaching maternity wards due to unsafe conditions. Allen called for immediate access to aid and humanitarian supplies in Gaza to address this healthcare crisis.

The situation calls for immediate attention to address the urgent need to ensure the well-being of pregnant women in Gaza and underscores the paramount importance of providing them with essential healthcare services during this challenging time.
