More than 95% of diabetics suffer from type 2 diabetes, which was previously known as non-insulin-dependent or adult-onset diabetes. Historically limited to adults, this form of diabetes is now increasingly affecting younger individuals. This shift highlights a growing health concern, as type 2 diabetes becomes more prevalent among children and adolescents, necessitating greater awareness and preventive measures.

To take care of our health by controlling diabetes is a daily task for an individual. Multiple technologies are available in the market to help control diabetes. One unique product from Novo Nordisk that we should know about is the โ€˜Dose Check Appโ€™. Today, the app is widely used in the Saudi market. With Dose Check, youโ€™ll have your doctorโ€™s guidance at hand to help you get off to a good start on your new basal insulin treatment.

What is Dose Check?

Dose Check is an insulin dose guidance app designed for people with type 2 diabetes who are starting on or switching to selected Novo Nordisk insulins. The app works out your insulin dose for you when you log your fasting blood sugar based on your treatment plan set by your doctor. With your doctorโ€™s guidance at hand, it may help you reach your target dose.

How โ€˜Dose Checkโ€™ works?

Based on your doctorโ€™s treatment plan, Dose Check guides you to your target insulin dose. Your doctor sets up Dose Check online, inputting your treatment details. The app then calculates your required insulin based on your logged blood sugar levels. Each day, Dose Check reminds you to log your fasting blood sugar and administer the recommended insulin dose. This ensures you adhere to your prescribed treatment while enabling your doctor to monitor your progress online.

Using Dose Check Effectively

Take the prescribed dose as directed by your doctor to ensure that you are taking the right amount. Using Dose Check, you will also be able to:

  • Check your previous blood sugar levels and insulin doses
  • Use the calendar to check youโ€™ve logged your fasting blood sugar level and injected the recommended dose
  • View your insulin treatment plan
  • See your blood sugar levels and insulin doses in one chart
  • Use the charts in the app to check your progress towards reaching your treatment goals
  • Receive advice straight away on next steps if you record a blood sugar level thatโ€™s too low (hypo)
  • Receive tips and insights on managing diabetes

User Reception in Middle East

The Dose Check app has seen a strong and enthusiastic uptake among patients in Saudi Arabia. This is particularly noteworthy as Saudi Arabia is currently the only country in the Middle East where the app is available. Patients in the Kingdom have expressed appreciation for Dose Checkโ€™s key features, including its connectivity with glucometers, doctor recommendations, and guidance on hypoglycaemia management.

Overall, the reception of Dose Check in the Saudi Arabian market has been extremely positive. Patients have found the app to be a highly valuable tool that addresses key challenges in insulin dose titration, regardless of their individual levels of digital literacy.
