On August 19th, observed as World Humanitarian Day, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) showcased its unwavering commitment to humanitarian efforts by establishing the UAE Field Hospital in Amdjarass, Chad.
Collaborative Efforts: UAE’s Humanitarian Partners
Launched on July 9th, this 50-bed hospital stands as a testament to the collective efforts of three UAE humanitarian entities: the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, and Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation. These organizations, along with the UAE’s Office for Aid Coordination in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, are dedicated to providing critical medical services to those in need.
A Response to Humanitarian Challenges: Addressing Sudanese Refugee Crisis
The UAE Field Hospital in Chad is a response to the humanitarian challenges posed by the conflict outbreak in Sudan in April. Its primary mission is to alleviate the suffering of Sudanese refugees and mitigate the humanitarian impact of their influx into Chad.
Comprehensive Medical Services: Serving Those in Need by Chad Hospital
Since its inauguration, the hospital has touched the lives of thousands of Sudanese refugees, earning a strong reputation in the local community. It operates 24/7 with an integrated medical staff and modern equipment, conducting over 47 major and minor surgeries.
Zoned for Care: Hospital Facilities
The hospital comprises three main zones: the red emergency zone for critical cases, the yellow zone for moderate cases, and the green zone for daily care cases. Modern facilities such as a laboratory, pharmacy, blood bank, central kitchen, laundry, and warehouses complement these zones.
Collaboration with Local Hospitals: Expanding Reach
The UAE Field Hospital actively collaborates with Chadian hospitals, especially for cases transferred from hospitals in Amdjarass with limited capabilities. Ambulance fleets ensure comprehensive treatment until full recovery.
Mobile Clinic Project: Extending Primary Healthcare
Beyond the hospital’s walls, the UAE has initiated a mobile clinic project to provide medical and curative services to Sudanese refugees and the local community in Amdjarass and its environs. These clinics enhance primary healthcare services and refer patients requiring specialized treatment or surgery to the field hospital.
A Symbol of Hope: UAE’s Humanitarian Dedication
As the field hospital continues to serve as a beacon of hope and healing, it exemplifies the UAE’s dedication to alleviating the suffering of those in need, irrespective of geographic boundaries. Visitors express profound gratitude for the UAE’s support, affirming that its establishment came at the right time and place, particularly for Sudanese refugees.
Medical professionals at the hospital regard their work as a national duty and responsibility, underscoring the noble humanitarian mission that drives their efforts. The UAE Field Hospital in Chad adds another luminous chapter to the nation’s illustrious history of humanitarian endeavors.
