OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Health, a dedicated and privacy-focused experience designed to help users to understand and manage their health information while supporting, not replacing, clinical care.
OpenAI has announced the launch of ChatGPT Health, a dedicated experience within ChatGPT that brings personal health information together with artificial intelligence to help users better understand and navigate their health and wellness. The new offering is designed to make health conversations more informed, contextual, and secure, while maintaining a clear boundary from clinical diagnosis or treatment.

Health-related questions are already among the most common uses of ChatGPT globally. According to OpenAIโs de-identified analysis, more than 230 million people worldwide ask health and wellness questions on the platform each week. ChatGPT Health builds on this existing use by allowing users to securely connect medical records and wellness apps, enabling responses that are grounded in individual health data rather than generic information.
The new health experience operates as a separate, dedicated space within ChatGPT. Health conversations, files, connected apps, and memories are stored independently from other chats, with additional privacy protections designed specifically for sensitive health data. While health chats remain visible in a userโs chat history for convenience, the underlying data stays compartmentalized within Health. Importantly, conversations in ChatGPT Health are not used to train OpenAIโs foundation models.
Users can connect medical records through partnerships with trusted providers in the United States, supported by b.well, a network for secure consumer health data access. ChatGPT Health also supports integrations with wellness and fitness platforms such as Apple Health, Function, and MyFitnessPal, subject to user consent. These integrations allow users to better understand lab results, prepare for medical appointments, review wellness trends, and explore insurance considerations based on personal healthcare patterns. Medical record integrations and some apps are currently available only in the US, and Apple Health integration requires iOS.
Privacy and security are central to the design of ChatGPT Health. In addition to standard encryption used across ChatGPT, Health introduces purpose-built encryption and isolation for health data. Users retain full control, with the ability to view, manage, or delete health memories and disconnect apps at any time. Multi-factor authentication is also available to further protect access.

ChatGPT Health was developed in close collaboration with physicians worldwide. Over two years, more than 260 doctors across 60 countries contributed feedback to shape how the system communicates health information safely and clearly. This work is evaluated using HealthBench, a physician-informed framework that prioritizes clinical safety, clarity, and appropriate escalation of care. Access to ChatGPT Health is rolling out gradually. Users on Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans outside the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom can join a waitlist, with broader availability planned in the coming weeks on web and iOS.
