Moscow is expanding the use of artificial intelligence in healthcare through the MosMedAI digital platform, with the system now available to more than 2,400 medical organisations across 75 Russian regions.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin and Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko reviewed the platformโ€™s progress during a visit to the Moscow Center for Diagnostics and Telemedicine, which specialises in radiology, instrumental diagnostics and the integration of AI into clinical practice.

Launched in 2024, MosMedAI enables regional healthcare institutions to access AI-supported interpretation of medical images without having to develop their own systems. The platform has processed more than 18 million imaging studies, with over 1.1 million studies analysed each month, according to information presented during the visit.

The platform currently provides access to 18 AI diagnostic services covering CT scans, X-rays, fluorograms and mammograms. These tools can identify multiple conditions, including suspected lung cancer, stroke, intracranial bleeding, pneumothorax, breast cancer, fractures and aortic aneurysms.

Medical images are transmitted digitally to the relevant AI service, where neural networks analyse them and highlight potential abnormalities. Processing takes only minutes, while the final clinical assessment and responsibility remain with the treating physician.

Moscow specialists are also contributing to the development of national GOST standards for AI in healthcare. A total of 28 national standards have been implemented, covering areas including data and algorithm requirements, technical and clinical testing, safety and quality assurance.
