Dubai, UAE- February 2025- Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU) proudly marks a decade of collaboration with Queen’s University Belfast (QUB).

This partnership, built on a shared vision for advancing healthcare education and research, has supported the development of MBRU’s College of Medicine and College of Nursing and Midwifery, recently honored with the designation of the Hind Bint Maktoum College of Nursing and Midwifery.

The milestone was celebrated at an event hosted at MBRU, attended by Her Excellency Dr. Raja Easa Al Gurg, Member of the Dubai Health Board of Directors and Chairperson of MBRU Council, and Professor Sir Ian Greer, Member of the Dubai Health Board of Directors and President and Vice-Chancellor of Queen’s University Belfast. Also in attendance were Dr. Amer Sharif, CEO of Dubai Health and President of MBRU, Professor Alawi Alshiekh-Ali, Chief Academic Officer of Dubai Health and Provost of MBRU, and senior representatives from QUB and Dubai Health.

Dr. Raja Easa Al Gurg, Chairperson of MBRU Council, spoke warmly of the partnership’s inception, noting, “The alignment of our visions has been instrumental in establishing MBRU, and I am grateful for Professor Sir Ian Greer’s wisdom as a member of the Dubai Health Board of Directors on our more recent journey as Dubai’s first integrated academic health system with an ambition to elevate the standard of care locally and globally.”

The event also honored individuals whose contributions have been fundamental in shaping MBRU into the thriving institution it is today. Dr. Amer Sharif and Professor Alawi Alsheikh-Ali received honorary professorships at QUB in recognition of their outstanding achievements, and Dr. Sharif was awarded the Chancellor’s Medal for his exceptional leadership and impact.

Professor Sir Ian Greer shared, “It has been a privilege to witness the remarkable growth of MBRU over the past decade and to collaborate on initiatives that advance healthcare education and research. The establishment and success of the Dubai Health academic healthcare system has been a major achievement in such a short time. This will drive further excellence in research, teaching and improved patient care across the region. The honorary professorships awarded to Dr. Sharif and Professor Alsheikh-Ali reflect their dedication to academic excellence and their impact on the field.โ€™โ€™

Dr. Sharif said, “This collaboration, rooted in mutual respect and a shared vision, has blossomed into a partnership greater than the sum of its parts. Together, we have played a role in bringing the power of an academic health system to Dubai, touching countless lives through our collective efforts.”

Professor Alsheikh-Ali added, “Our work with QUB has shaped MBRU’s curricula to ensure our students receive a research-led educational experience aligned with international best practices. We are excited about future opportunities to innovate and train the next generation of healthcare leaders.”
