April 2026- Six months after the ceasefire in Gaza took effect on 10 October 2025, the humanitarian situation remains severe, according to Mรฉdecins Sans Frontiรจres, which reports continued violence, restricted aid access, and worsening living conditions.

As of 8 April 2026, at least 733 people have been killed and 1,913 injured since the ceasefire, based on figures from Gazaโ€™s health authorities. MSF teams continue to respond to mass casualty incidents and have treated thousands of trauma cases, including many children, across their facilities.

The healthcare system is under significant strain, with shortages of medicines, equipment, and basic medical supplies. MSF states that Israeli authorities have blocked its humanitarian shipments since January 2026 and limited medical evacuations, leaving more than 18,500 patients, including 4,000 children, awaiting specialised treatment, according to the World Health Organization.

Approximately 90% of Gazaโ€™s population remains displaced, many living in overcrowded shelters. MSF reports that respiratory infections, skin diseases, and diarrhoeal illnesses are widespread, driven by poor living conditions.

MSF describes the situation as catastrophic, with preventable deaths increasing due to restricted access to healthcare, essential supplies, and basic services.

โ€œSix months on, the ceasefire has failed to end the genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, with Israeli authorities continuing to impose conditions intended to destroy conditions of life,โ€ says Claire San Filippo, emergency manager for MSF. โ€œDespite the reduction of the intensity of violence, Israeli attacks are continuous and the situation remains catastrophic.โ€

โ€œPeopleโ€™s needs are massive, yet the Israeli authorities have continued to systematically restrict the entry of humanitarian aid,โ€ says San Filippo.

โ€œAmong the critical cases, there were two young girls of seven and eight years old,โ€ says Dr Murad Saliha, an MSF doctor. โ€œBoth of them had life-threatening injuries and were rushed to emergency surgery. Fortunately, despite limited resources, our medical team was able to save both their lives.โ€ย ย
