Abu Dhabi, UAE: Burjeel Cancer Institute at Burjeel Medical City has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine to strengthen collaboration in medical education, clinical training, academic exchange, and research, with an initial focus on oncology.

The agreement, facilitated through Burjeel Training Academy, marks the Academy’s first academic partnership with a U.S. medical school. Under the collaboration, medical students from Loyola University will have the opportunity to undertake supervised clinical electives across Burjeel Holdings’ hospitals and specialty centres in the UAE, gaining experience in a diverse healthcare environment.

Dr. Theresa Nguyen, Director of the Center for Community and Global Health, Professor of Emergency Medicine, Stritch School of Medicine, said, โ€œThe agreement will provide our students with an opportunity to learn in a different healthcare environment and engage with clinicians serving patients from varied cultural and clinical backgrounds. We also look forward to exploring opportunities for faculty collaboration, education, and research with colleagues across Burjeel Cancer Institute and the wider Burjeel network.โ€

Beyond student training, the partnership establishes a framework for faculty exchange, joint educational programmes, collaborative research, and the development of new clinical learning opportunities. It also builds on the existing academic relationship between Burjeel Cancer Institute and Loyola University’s Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center to advance cancer education, research, and patient care.

Burjeel Training Academy will coordinate the programme as part of its undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education initiatives, further strengthening international collaboration and enhancing clinical education across the UAE.
