Abu Dhabi, UAE: The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) is exploring partnerships with Chinese healthcare and technology organisations in artificial intelligence, medical robotics, cancer care and pharmaceutical development during the emirate’s first health and life sciences mission to China.

The DoH-led delegation is visiting Shanghai, Shenzhen and Beijing from September 21 to 30, meeting government bodies, hospitals, universities and technology companies to identify opportunities for research collaboration, clinical cooperation and healthcare innovation.

The mission is focused on four key areas: AI, robotics and medical technologies; precision cancer care and advanced diagnostics; drug development and clinical trials; and healthcare regulation and traditional medicine.

A key objective is to strengthen the pathway from scientific research to practical healthcare applications, enabling new discoveries and technologies to be translated more efficiently into treatments and patient services.

The discussions also reflect the complementary capabilities of both markets. China has developed significant expertise in biotechnology, advanced manufacturing and artificial intelligence, while Abu Dhabi is building on its health data resources, genomics programmes and established healthcare infrastructure to evaluate and adopt emerging technologies.

Dr Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of DoH, said “the mission is intended to lay the foundation for longer-term cooperation between the healthcare systems of Abu Dhabi and China.”

The visit forms part of Abu Dhabi’s broader efforts to strengthen international partnerships in health and life sciences and accelerate innovation across patient care, research and medical technology.
