Dubai, UAE: The UAE has launched a nationwide oral and dental health screening initiative for Kindergarten 1 (KG1) students in public schools to identify potential dental problems before children enter primary education.
The programme is being implemented by the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Emirates Health Services (EHS). Families can arrange screenings at EHS government health centres or private healthcare facilities.
The examinations will assess children for tooth decay, gum disease and other oral health conditions that could affect their overall health, development and ability to learn.

“The project reflects a national vision that invests in prevention as the most effective foundation for building a healthier society for the long term,” said Dr Hussain Al Rand, assistant undersecretary for the public health sector at the ministry. “Promoting oral and dental health from the preschool years helps establish healthy habits that can stay with children throughout their lives.”
The programme also aims to make regular dental check-ups part of routine childhood healthcare, rather than relying on visits only when symptoms appear.

EHS will support early identification, appropriate referrals, health awareness and follow-up care for children requiring further treatment. The initiative aligns with the UAE’s preventive healthcare priorities and the World Health Organization’s Global Oral Health Strategy 2023–2030.
