Taiz, Yemen: Yemen‘s already strained healthcare system is facing further disruption as ongoing conflict has reportedly blocked all road access to Taiz, preventing essential supplies from reaching the city and limiting access to medical services.
According to the United Nations, nearly 250,000 people in Taiz are facing difficulties accessing essential healthcare. Those affected include more than 186,000 children under five and approximately 23,000 pregnant women.
UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric warned that fuel shortages and a lack of critical medical supplies have placed 12 hospitals at risk of closure, with some facilities already reducing their services.
The situation is particularly concerning amid a rise in infectious diseases. More than 1,400 cases of acute diarrhoea and suspected cholera were reported within a single week, increasing pressure on healthcare facilities already struggling to operate.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and its health partners are coordinating a 90-day emergency response plan to maintain essential medical services, restore disrupted healthcare and strengthen disease surveillance.
The UN has called for civilian protection and safe, uninterrupted humanitarian access to ensure that life-saving assistance reaches affected communities.
