King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSH) has been officially listed by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) as a national reference for medical radiation measurement through its Secondary Standards Dosimetry Laboratory (SSDL).
The designation strengthens Saudi Arabiaโs capacity to verify the accuracy of radiation doses and medical equipment used in diagnosis and treatment against internationally recognised measurement standards. It also enables the laboratory to provide specialised calibration and reference services for radiotherapy, brachytherapy, diagnostic radiology, radioactivity and neutron measurements.
Accurate radiation measurement is essential to patient safety and effective treatment. Reliable, traceable measurements help healthcare institutions ensure that patients receive prescribed radiation doses with the required precision while supporting the reliability of diagnostic procedures.
