Oracle and AstraZeneca have signed a non-binding agreement to explore how artificial intelligence (AI), real-world data and cloud technologies can improve clinical research, support patient recruitment and bring research insights into everyday healthcare.
The collaboration aims to combine AstraZenecaโs scientific and therapeutic expertise with Oracleโs health data, AI, analytics, cloud infrastructure and clinical workflow capabilities. One key focus is using AI to help clinicians identify eligible patients for clinical trials earlier, potentially improving recruitment efficiency and expanding access to research opportunities.
Initial areas of exploration may include oncology; cardiovascular, renal and metabolic diseases; respiratory conditions and immunology; and rare diseases.
The companies also plan to examine how insights from clinical research and routine care can support future study design, safety monitoring and clinical decision-making. Their proposed approach includes shared governance, reusable technical components and agreed outcome measures to assess the impact of the collaboration.

Pascal Soriot, Chief Executive Officer, AstraZeneca said: “This unique collaboration brings leaders in healthcare and AI together at a global scale to accelerate the journey from the discovery of medicine to patient care. Combining AstraZeneca’s world class science with Oracle’s deep data and technology expertise, we can help clinicians identify patients sooner, optimize clinical trials, and generate evidence continuously across the lifecycle of a medicine.”
“Some of the most important opportunities for AI are in healthcare, where better use of data can help turn scientific innovation into better outcomes for patients,” noted Mike Sicilia, chief executive officer, Oracle. “By bringing AstraZeneca’s scientific expertise together with Oracle’s data, cloud, AI, and healthcare capabilities, we have an opportunity to help accelerate research, connect more patients to clinical trials, and ultimately bring relevant insights into care faster.”
The initiative aims to strengthen connections between scientific discovery, clinical trials and healthcare delivery, with the potential to extend successful approaches across disease areas and geographical regions.
