Abu Dhabi: A multidisciplinary medical team at Sheikh Tahnoon bin Mohammed Medical City has successfully managed a rare and potentially life-threatening neurological condition, highlighting the role of specialised diagnostics and coordinated care in complex brain disorders.
A 38-year-old patient admitted to the medical city underwent neurological monitoring and specialised brain investigations after presenting with neurological concerns. The assessments indicated temporal lobe epilepsy, likely associated with autoimmune limbic encephalitis, a rare form of brain inflammation.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) identified symmetrical cortical thickening and increased T2/FLAIR signals in the medial temporal lobes and limbic system, findings consistent with limbic encephalitis. The scans also showed isolated, non-specific white matter changes in the frontal and anterior temporal lobes.
The medical team initiated treatment with medication, following which the patientโs condition stabilised and functional recovery was achieved.
