Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam: As Vietnam continues to develop its healthcare services for international patients, specialised medical and aesthetic procedures are becoming part of the countryโs growing medical tourism sector. Edopi Health Care Clinic is highlighting its approach to breast implant removal, replacement and reconstructive procedures, including the use of ultrasonic surgical instruments.
Dr. Ho Cao Vu, MD, MSc, has incorporated ultrasonic technology into selected breast augmentation, implant removal and reconstructive procedures. The instruments may be used during explant surgery to assist with tissue dissection and bleeding control while allowing surgeons to assess the implant pocket and surrounding tissue.
Breast implant removal may be considered for various clinical or aesthetic reasons, including implant rupture, capsular contracture, implant displacement, changes in breast shape or a patient’s decision to remove or replace an implant.

“Breast implant removal should be approached as an individualized surgical procedure rather than a standardized process,” said Dr. Ho Cao Vu. “Evaluation of the implant, surrounding tissue and implant pocket helps determine the appropriate surgical plan for each case.”
The appropriate surgical approach depends on factors such as the condition of the implant, surrounding tissue, implant pocket and the patient’s overall health. Following removal, additional procedures such as capsulectomy, implant-pocket revision, tissue sampling or implant replacement may be considered based on clinical findings.

The clinic noted that breast implant removal carries potential risks, including bleeding, infection, hematoma, seroma, scarring and complications related to anaesthesia. Pre-operative assessment and post-operative monitoring are therefore important parts of the treatment process.
Dr. Ho Cao Vu has used ultrasonic surgical instruments in breast surgery since 2011, with clinical experience covering breast augmentation, explantation and reconstructive procedures.
