Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has launched its 2026โ€“2027 Awareness Campaign on Influenza and Seasonal Respiratory Diseases under the theme โ€œProtect Yourself… Protect Your Community,โ€ with a focus on vaccination, prevention and community protection.

Running through March 2027, the campaign aims to improve public understanding of seasonal respiratory infections and encourage people to adopt preventive health practices. It was launched at a press conference in Dubai with representatives from health authorities across the UAE.

H.E. Dr. Abdelaziz Saeed Almheiri, Chairman of Sharjah Health Authority, said, โ€œPrevention and health awareness are fundamental to safeguarding community health. Through the integrated efforts of health authorities across the UAE, we seek to raise awareness of the importance of vaccination and healthy practices that help reduce the spread of respiratory diseases and protect groups most vulnerable to complications. At Sharjah Health Authority, we emphasize the importance of shared responsibility in building a healthier and more health-conscious community, supporting quality of life and sustainable health for all.โ€

MoHAP highlighted timely vaccination as a key element of prevention, noting that the influenza vaccine typically takes around two weeks to build an adequate immune response. Vaccination is recommended from six months of age and is particularly important for older adults, children, pregnant women, people with chronic conditions, individuals with weakened immunity and healthcare workers.

Dr. Aysha AlBasti said: โ€œSeasonal influenza and respiratory illnesses can affect anyone, but some members of our community are more vulnerable to complications. Vaccination, alongside simple preventive practices, remains one of the most effective ways to protect ourselves and those around us.โ€

The campaign also promotes everyday measures to limit infection transmission and gives particular attention to groups at higher risk of complications.

Awareness activities will run across media outlets, digital platforms, healthcare facilities, partner networks and community events. MoHAP will also track indicators such as public understanding, preventive behaviours and vaccination uptake to assess the campaignโ€™s impact.
