BEIRUT, Lebanon – The American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) has installed the Middle East’s first Philips BlueSeal XE MRI system, strengthening its capabilities in precision medicine and advanced diagnostic imaging.
The AI-powered MRI system features SmartSpeed Precise technology, enabling scans up to three times faster while improving image sharpness by up to 80%. It also reduces scan times, enhances diagnostic accuracy, and improves patient comfort.

The platform supports AI-driven reporting and real-time scan quality assessment for conditions including cancer and neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease and multiple sclerosis.
Dr. Raymond Sawaya, the Raja N. Khuri Dean of Faculty of Medicine, said: “Advanced technology is an important way of providing excellence in patient care. We are privileged to partner with Philips in acquiring this state-of-the-art BlueSeal MRI system, that promises to deliver faster and sharper MRI images.”

Dr. Ghina Berjawi, the chair of the Department of Diagnostic Radiology remarked, “As we unveil this BlueSeal MRI today, we are not simply adding a machine to our department. The launch was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Public Health, the Embassy of the Netherlands, AUBMC, Philips, and the medical community. AUB President Fadlo R. Khuri said the installation reflects the medical center’s commitment to providing world-class healthcare through advanced technology.

The BlueSeal XE MRI system also eliminates the need for helium refills, simplifying maintenance while ensuring uninterrupted imaging services.
The installation further positions AUBMC as a regional leader in diagnostic imaging, medical innovation, and patient-centered care.
